India’s security forces are investigating how the man they accused of stealing nearly $800m of fake documentation last year was killed, police said.
Police said on Friday the man, identified as B.G., died after being admitted to hospital on Tuesday evening.
He was 38.
His body was taken to the state capital, New Delhi, where his body was returned to his family, police told AFP.
He had been detained in March for allegedly having forged documents on behalf of his former employer, one of India’s biggest IT services companies.
He had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Police had initially alleged that he stole about $700m of counterfeit documents from the company, which has more than 2,000 employees across India.
